DPL Named One of the Nation’s Star Libraries

Deerfield Public Library has received recognition as one of America’s Star Libraries for 2022, as announced by Library Journal. Of the more than 5,300 public libraries evaluated, only 258 were designated as Star Libraries.

This is the first time that the Deerfield Public Library was named a Star Library, and received four stars.  Ratings are assigned three, four, or five stars, based on use of library services and resources, including in-person visits, items checked out (physical and digital), program attendance, library website visits, wi-fi sessions, and use of electronic resources.

Each year Library Journal ranks libraries across the United States based on public library data reported to the national database at the Institute of Museum and Library Services. The 2022 rankings are from 2020 data.

“To receive this recognition for our service during the first year of the pandemic is amazing,” said Library Director Amy Falasz-Peterson. “Our success is a result of the expertise and dedication of our staff, and their ability to adapt services to serve our community during a uniquely challenging time.”

Of the 258 libraries nationwide awarded Star status, 43 were Illinois libraries. Neighboring libraries that also received recognition include Glencoe, Indian Trails, Lake Bluff, Lake Forest, Northbrook, and Vernon Area.
