Who are the greatest drummers of all time?

For years, libraries have hosted book discussions. We wanted to take that a step further. When we reopened in June of 2013 in our new building, we started having music discussions at the Library. We have the discussions four times a year, once each quarter. Usually when we do them we concentrate on a single CD or album, listen to each cut, and talk about the background and history of each song. We’ve had some great discussions in the past about “Johnny Cash Live at Folsom Prison”, “Elvis Presley – The Sun Sessions”, “Bob Dylan – The Basement Tapes”, and “The Beatles – Rubber Soul”.

With this year’s Summers Reading Program theme being “Read To The Rhythm”, we were inspired to make the summer’s music discussion rhythm related. On Wednesday, July 29 we’ll be discussing great drummers from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m.

We’ve picked what we think are some of the greatest drummers in the history of music. We’ll talk a little bit about what makes each drummer special and why some people think they’re the greatest of all time. We’ll also watch and listen to each different drummer perform. And, we definitely want to hear from you! Who is your favorite drummer and why?

Register now and join us for what should be a fun, lively, and toe-tapping debate!  To pique your interest even more, check out this great clip of a drum battle between Gene Krupa and Buddy Rich:
