Discover Something New with Our Discovery Kits

DiscoveryKitLogoDPL CROP 1 1We are thrilled to announce our new collection of Discovery Kits! Our Discovery Kits will focus on Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math concepts with hands-on making. The first kits that the Library is offering for check-out are Makey Makey Discovery Kits. Watch out for more exciting and creative DPL Discovery Kits coming out this summer in conjunction with our Summer Reading Theme: Reading by Design!

So, what is Makey Makey?

Makey Makey is a circuit board which helps users turn all kinds of objects into a keyboard for the computer! For example: by connecting bananas to the Makey Makey, you can play them like a keyboard! You could even make a video game controller out of playdough and connect the Makey Makey to play Pacman, Super Mario Bros, Minecraft, and more! Have fun figuring out which materials are conductive with the Makey Makey. Check out the link at the bottom of this post for different game and instrument options to use with the Makey Makey.

What comes in the Kit?

In the Makey Makey Discovery Kit, you will receive:

  • The Makey Makey itself (with all pieces and attachments)
  • The book Makey Makey by Sandy Ng, which explains how to use Makey Makey, and includes many of the fun, conductive materials you can use
  • Instructions on how to use the Makey Makey
  • And a list of everything that comes in the Discovery Kit, so it’s convenient for you to keep track of and return all of the pieces.
