Statement from the Director

The Deerfield Public Library stands with the American Library Association’s recently released statement condemning racism and with the Black Caucus of the American Library Association’s statement condemning increased violence and racism towards Black people and all People of Color. Our Library strives to be a place of safety, inclusion, and diversity. We work to provide a safe, respectful, and welcoming space for civic discourse and the expression of diverse voices.

To encourage critical thinking, inspire conversations, and support patrons seeking materials relating to anti-racist education and action, our staff have compiled resource lists. Additionally, information about the community’s history of housing discrimination can be accessed on the Deerfield Public Library’s Fight to Integrate Deerfield website. We invite community members to share your reflections and stories for our local history archive during this moment in history.
