Calling all children and teens! Challenge yourself this summer by participating in our Read Beyond the Beaten Path Summer Reading Program. Track your reading and complete fun activities to enter weekly drawings and finish the program. All participants who complete the program will receive a free book and an entry into our grand prize drawing. Online registration starts on Saturday, June 4. Check out all the details for each age group below.

Register and log your reading online starting June 4

If you prefer to use a paper log for your own purposes, download our printable summer reading logs. If you have trouble logging your reading online, email the completed log to youthservices@deerfieldlibrary.org.

Youth

Children Birth-PreK
  • Register online any time this summer starting Saturday, June 4 to get going.
  • Children ages birth-PreK will earn virtual badges for completing activities and will be entered into weekly drawings.
  • Complete your child’s log by earning all 4 virtual badges. Each badge requires you to complete 3 activities.
  • Submit your child’s completed log online by Saturday, July 30 to get a free book to keep.
  • All children Birth-PreK who complete the program get a chance to win one of three grand prizes: a Gift Certificate to the Deerfield Park District, Membership to the Peggy Notebaert Museum, or Membership to the Brookfield Zoo.
  • This year the Library will symbolically adopt an animal through the World Wildlife Fund which will help protect the animals and their habitats. All Summer Reading participants will have the opportunity to vote between 6 different animals. You can vote once per day/visit to the Library. The animal choices are: Blue-footed Booby, Cottontop Tamarin, Jerboa, Manatee, Quokka, Pangolin.

Log your reading and activities online or in person. You can use one of the printable summer reading logs and stop by the Library for help updating your account.

Students K-Fifth (5th) Grade
  • Register online any time this summer starting Saturday, June 4 to get going.
  • Students entering grades K-5 in the fall will earn virtual badges for completing 7, 14, and 21 days of reading. Students can also earn up to two activity badges for completing activities (two activities per badge.)
  • Log each day you read and get entered into weekly drawings!
  • Complete your reading log by reading for 21 days and completing one of the activity badges! Earn a bonus entry by completing a second activity badge.
  • Submit your completed log online by Saturday, July 30 to get a free book to keep.
  • Students entering grades K-5 who complete the program get a chance to win one of three grand prizes: an iPad, a Nintendo Switch, or Membership to the Brookfield Zoo.

Teens

Teens Grades 6-12
  • Register online any time this summer starting Saturday, June 4 to get going.
  • Reading a book, listening to music, exploring the great outdoors, or attending a Teen program all count toward your summer reading log.
  • Each virtual badge is earned by completing 4 days of reading + 1 activity.
  • Log each week to be entered into weekly drawings!
  • Complete your log by finishing five badges. Earn an additional grand prize entry by completing a sixth badge.
  • Submit your completed log online by Saturday, July 30 to get a free book to keep.
  • Students entering grades 6-12 who complete five badges earn a chance to win one of three grand prizes: a Nintendo Switch, an iPad, or a VISA gift card.
  • This year the Library will symbolically adopt an animal through the World Wildlife Fund which will help protect the animals and their habitats. All Summer Reading participants will have the opportunity to vote between 6 different animals. You can vote once per day/visit to the Library.
